“La capretta di Maria” is a show designed to talk to the little ones about the work of Maria Lai and allow them to take a journey to discover the value and meanings of art in our lives”, explains Rita Atzeri. She adds: “In this poetic journey we have fused some biographical elements of Maria’s life with the narration of some fairy tales revisited by her. We imagined that our ‘theatrical box’, stripped of blacks and made white for the occasion, was a little theatre with which Maria herself, as a child, plays at giving shape to the images of her gaze that transforms reality”.
The show, made of dreams and visions lasting forty minutes, opens with Maria Lai as a child, who describes the birth of her artistic thought with the image of a comb that veils her right eye of unruly hair: an action that is mirrored in the symmetrical gestures of the actresses on stage. From here, with the metaphorical fabric of dance, which symbolizes art, the narration of the fairy tales “The Little Goat”, “My Heart”, “The Distracted God” unravels.
Among Maria Lai’s site-specific environmental installations, Atzeri chose to give body to her best-known work, “Legarsi alla montagna”.
