A “homemade” banquet for a murder committed within the family, in which the protagonist’s ambitions will vanish in a cloud of steam.
A kitchen, a place where dark dishes and cruel machinations are prepared.
In Macbeth banquet a cook tells the Shakespearean story with the help of tools and foods available in a kitchen. A single actor enters the thoughts of the characters and interprets their gestures and actions, the cook officiates a theatrical rite with his assistant: Maurizio Aliffi’s guitar dialogues with the interpreter Luca Radaelli in a real musical/culinary representation.
The scenery is composed of everyday objects (pots, dishes, knives, kitchen tools) in a simple setting. The actions allude to the preparation of the banquet in which Banquo’s ghost will appear.
The wild battles, the nocturnal killings, the Birnam forest… We will see it all, on stage: the witches, Macduff, King Duncan, Lady Macbeth and the future king of Scotland will all be before us, at the stoves of a bloody plot. A failed recipe for the fate of a couple devoured by the desire for domination.
