The land of my soul tells the story of the life, the real one, of a character already known to Massimo Carlotto’s readers: Beniamino Rossini. After being the Alligator’s companion in five novels, old Rossini decided, when he learned he was seriously ill, to tell his “underworld” story and to do so in the form of an adventure novel written by his friend Massimo. The story begins immediately after the war and arrives almost to the present day, from Milan liberated by the partisans to the border with Switzerland, from Lebanon to Malta, from Venice to Croatia in the recent civil war. Stories of smuggling. Stories of robberies. Stories of women and men. For Rossini, the land of my soul is the frontier, a place of adventure par excellence but also of friendships, loves, betrayals, political passions.
