Titino Carrara

I was born on a journey, between one square and another, in a family that has made a history of travel and illusion. My father Tommaso, known as Masi, built our Mobile Theatre in 1948, all by hand, all in wood, 500 seats: the “Piccolo Carro di Tespi” of the “Compagnia Italiana di Prosa Carrara-Laurini”. Theatre and, next to it, the caravan: a house on solid rubber wheels for a family of travelling actors for ten generations. A life on the road until 1975 when the Mobile Theatre became a permanent theatre. The ways change but the journey continues: international tours, new ideas of Popular Theatre, the reinvention of the Commedia dell’Arte, the reinterpretation of the classics, children’s theatre. For twenty years Arlecchino accompanied me around the world, from Japan to the Americas. Now the mask rests, no longer fixed-faced scripts, but many stories that emerge from the past and reinvent themselves in the present. For me, doing theater is being inside it, living it, reinventing it, and so here I am, always ready to transform, change, mutate without denying memories and experiences that remain the precious legacy from which I continue to draw with both hands. Today there are new characters, costumes, make-up, but the heart, the necessary essence of “doing Theater” always remains the same: the reflection of a flame in the eyes of those who bring theater to life and theater, as we know, lives only if it burns.

LA PICCIONAIA - I CARRARA

Titino Carrara takes us into his childhood as a wanderer, into the memory of one of the last still active artistic families in our country: the Carraras. It is the story of a nomadic and gypsy existence, far from the bourgeois patterns to which our society has tended from the post-war period to the present day. A subject that addresses the theme of diversity, revealing a social fabric, belonging to Italian history, made of caravans and mobile the...

MASSIMO CARLOTTO

The land of my soul tells the story of the life, the real one, of a character already known to Massimo Carlotto’s readers: Beniamino Rossini. After being the Alligator’s companion in five novels, old Rossini decided, when he learned he was seriously ill, to tell his “underworld” story and to do so in the form of an adventure novel written by his friend Massimo. The story begins immediately after the war and arrives almost to the present d...

TITINO CARARRA

After Strada Carrara, the story of a child born to nomadic actors, Titino Carrara is back on stage, under the direction of Laura Curino, to tell another true-life story with an adventurous flavour: the romantic and moving story of Beniamino Rossini, a gentleman of the underworld: the dear friend that Massimo Carlotto had already transformed into one of the protagonists of the series Alligator. From the liberated post-war Milan, through the mounta...
