Lo scorpione nello stomaco

ILARIO CARTA

Pier Francesco Baroncelli Dal Monte, just elected with a Bulgarian majority to the highest office in the country, announces as his first act “The Day of Conciliation”, a conference to be held in the conference room of the Secretariat of State in which the ruling class of the nation is called to express its servile assent towards the announced policies of the newly elected. And it will be precisely on the occasion of this event, destined, according to the intentions of the organizers, to upset the political and social structure of Italy, that a series of characters will come to light who will experience that “day” in a very particular way. In the jumble of frustrated aspirations, rivalries, illicit loves, personal events, it will be precisely the men and women who gravitate around the Secretariat who will “narrate” the 24 hours of the summit. The Scorpion in the Stomach is a novel that unfolds on three distinct but connected levels: “The Day of Conciliation”, which progresses hour by hour, the events of ordinary normality of a public work environment and the extraordinary story of the protagonist, which will be revealed only in the last line, in an epilogue with dramatic overtones. An ironic, irreverent, tragic, realistic novel, which fully photographs the arrogance, hypocrisy, self-referentiality, unreliability and detachment from reality of the political class in general.
