Il principio dell’incertezza unplugged

ANDREA BRUNELLO

Inspired by Richard Feynman – famous American physicist, Nobel Prize winner in 1965 for the development of quantum electrodynamics – and dedicated to our children, the show is a Jet Propulsion Theatre production of the Arditodesìo Company, created in collaboration with the Laboratory of Communication of Physical Sciences of the Department of Physics of the University of Trento.

A professor climbs through some of the most mysterious concepts of quantum mechanics to tell a wonderful world made of mysteries and paradoxes. But underneath lies a disturbing truth. The lesson thus turns into a confession that mixes the most advanced theories of quantum mechanics, the theories of parallel worlds, with the professor’s secret, pushing him to make an extreme decision.

Brunello brings the unplugged version of the show to the stage, without the aid of lights and live music, but more suitable for spaces that are not strictly theatrical. “This version,” he explains, “allows, in its simplicity, a very intimate interaction with the audience and a ‘truth’ that often displaces spectators and therefore excites them.” At the end there is always the possibility of going into more depth both with regard to the scientific content (Brunello, as mentioned, was a physics researcher before dedicating himself to theater) and for those more directly linked to the story told. And it is surprising to reflect on how twentieth-century physics has shaped our perception of the world.

“Il Principio dell’Incertezza” aims to be a celebration of human ingenuity and a testimony to the deep appreciation we have for all that is “Nature”: from our incredible and mysterious Universe to bees, flowers and everything that can be seen, appreciated and understood using the intellect. But it also explores the boundary between our rational and irrational sides: how does a rational being deal with an event that changes his life? What short circuit happens in the mind of a person who rationalizes everything, when the emotion is too powerful and becomes unbearable?”.
