Bebo Storti has been entrusted with the difficult task of giving voice to this nostalgic for the “good deeds” of the twenty-year Fascist period, today personally committed to defending public order against viados, non-EU citizens, gypsies and drug addicts.
Mai Morti (Never Died) was the name of one of the most terrible battalions of the Decima Mas. The character looks at this formation, which operated alongside the Nazis in the anti-partisan repression, and at the disturbing magma of the fascist planet with delirious nostalgia. During a Milanese night of our days, the protagonist abandons himself to sacred, distant, dear memories. He evokes the “glorious” actions of Ettore Muti, such as the torture practiced in the rooms of what will become the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. He recalls the massacres committed by the Italian Army in Africa and the indiscriminate and massive use of gas against civilian populations.
Some events from the more recent past and our present also animate his daydreams: from the Piazza Fontana massacre in incandescent Milan in 1969, to the G8 in Genoa.
A monologue that seeks to remind those who may have forgotten or never learned that the word anti-fascism still has a fundamental and profound reason to exist, and to reflect on how, in Italy, racism, nationalism and xenophobia are difficult to eradicate.
