Founded by Giorgio Zorcù and Sara Donzelli in 2005, Accademia Mutamenti is a theatre company located in Grosseto. It produces shows for adults and children and is recognized and supported by the Tuscany Region for the quality of its theatre production.
The two artists have brought their previous experiences into the company: that of artistic director, director and producer of Zorcù, and that of actress and pedagogue of Donzelli. For its productions, the company uses from time to time a staff composed of great professionals: actors, playwrights, musicians and light-designers from all over Italy.
The central characteristics of the theatrical language of Accademia Mutamenti are the quality of the actor’s work and the visionary nature of the scene, while the themes addressed are mainly linked to the male-female dialectic, approached with the double gaze of contemporaneity and myth, fairy tale and tragedy.
But the theatre company also maintains a strong vocation for social and cultural work, particularly linked to the area of Grosseto and its province, where it carries out a series of projects that aim to enrich the existing cultural offering, devise new forms of participation and relationship with the public, create innovative creative contexts for artists, giving new appeal to the territory itself.
Among the latest projects launched are: the transdisciplinary campus of Art in Nature Dunes – Art Landscapes Utopias in the Maremma Regional Park; the San Rocco Festival (theater, music and dance festival) which saw the light in the summer of 2020 to provide a new response to the need for community, after the first lockdown for the Covid-19 pandemic; the project I gesti dello Sport – Percorsi creativi aperti a cittadinanza, directed by Virgilio Sieni, which debuted within the San Rocco Autumn Festival 2022 and finally the Officina Teatro / Letteratura project, formalized by a memorandum of understanding that four Tuscan theater companies (Accademia Mutamenti, Arca Azzurra, Compagnia Lombardi Tiezzi, I Sacchi di Sabbia) and the Scuola Normale Superiore, with the aim of enhancing and promoting the dissemination of great literary works through a virtuous collaboration between scientific research and performance; the national theatrical writing competition for schools Scrivere il Teatro, promoted by MIUR and ITI Italia since 2016.
The theatre company is a founding member of the Italian centre of the ITI – International Theatre Institute / UNESCO, a member of the coordination committee of the independent companies of Tuscany.
On the production front, the most important shows created in recent years are: The Queen of Bandits by Federico Bertozzi (Bassano del Grappa 2006), The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter (Grosseto 2008), Socialism in Waltz Step by Giuseppe Di Leva (Turin 2011), The Sunset Room – Notes on the Ordinary Life of a Mammal by Lina Prosa (Bologna 2016), Circe / Mud by Margaret Atwood (Vetulonia 2014), Kkore – Song for the Heartbroken Who Have a Heart by Lina Prosa (Follonica 2018), Nives by Sacha Naspini (Follonica 2022), the poetic videomapping The Count of Montecristo by Giorgio Zorcù from Alexandre Dumas (Marina di Grosseto 2022), the annual reading-performance cycle La Lettrice, in Castiglione della Pescaia since 2016.
