Storie comiche ferroviarie – Studio Barzellette

ASCANIO CELESTINI

A small terminal station. Trains arrive and return because the tracks are broken. An old railway worker talks to the village gravedigger while waiting for a luxury dead man. An emigrant who made his fortune abroad and, now that he is dead, is returning to the village to be buried. While waiting, the railway worker tells his jokes, the ones he has collected from travellers. Unknown people who arrive and leave without leaving anything but their own funny stories. And why did he collect them? To make the stationmaster laugh. Over time, the old railway worker has fallen in love with his little stories and we don’t know if one day he will actually tell them to the man for whom they were collected. Or maybe he has already told them to him. Maybe he is the stationmaster. Maybe there isn’t even a station, the train will never arrive and the gravedigger has come to bury the joke teller. The only certainty is that the old man can’t keep quiet.

But try working at the train station and staying quiet in the storm that is there. If you speak softly they don’t hear you. If you stay quiet you’re dead. If you scream you lose your voice on the first day of the work week. It’s all a balance. And then have you seen the people who pass by?

Get this.
