The Su Marmuri Textile Cooperative was founded in 1971 in Ulassai, with the aim of preserving its ancient textile tradition. Today it is the oldest company in Sardinia, made up of only women.
The products, all unique pieces or in very limited series, are worked entirely by hand on horizontal looms with the “a pibiones” technique, a type of weaving typical of Sardinia, with which decorative motifs in relief are obtained. Using only natural raw materials, such as local sheep’s wool, linen, cotton and silk, the laboratory produces carpets and tapestries, curtains, tablecloths, cushions and other textile furnishing accessories for the home. Both traditional and contemporary and experimental decorative motifs are created, also in collaboration with important artists, such as Maria Lai, with whom the cooperative’s weavers have collaborated intensely since 1981.
