If it is possible to be more outside than the thirteenth diner (the outcast), the “fourteenth diner” is the true compendium of a life “outside”. The life is that of Franca Bellisai, a figure of exclusions and non-belongings but in constant search of belongings and inclusions: ideological and emotional. The young student in the Seventies would like to be inside the armed struggle, and on the front lines, like her life partner Vittorio Rullo. The fugitive in France would like to be inside the reorganization of the movement, the palpitations and the waits for two heavy bags of cash, the forbidden inheritance of Vittorio who died in a clash with the police… A debut novel, “La quattordicesima commensale” won the Calvino Prize 2003.
