That is: not so much the inclusion of the individual performer as an individual with a handicap, but rather as a bearer of a different ability. SMS includes people of different ages, genders, geographical origins, skills, psycho-physical conditions, abilities.
\nFor us at Rossolevante, theater is born from a wound, from a necessity and from an urgency. But also from an encounter: with a place (forest, mountain, city), a text not necessarily written for the stage, a piece of music and at least one other human being. In the case of SMS, the latter type of encounter prevailed. Stop Making Sense: the title says a lot about the direction the work has taken. The show has in fact been structured using all that the meeting of bodies in space has managed to produce of beauty. We must not be afraid to use this word that, for us at Rossolevante, effectively summarizes everything that works in the theater, arrives, strikes, touches deeply even if it can be a bitter beauty. Without preventive censorship. Mixing the “high” and the “low”, mixing genres, styles, languages. A mixture of desires, limits and overcoming them. We have found the right place for everything we like to do. SMS is made up of several autonomous and apparently disconnected scenes, edited using a “cinematographic” logic, or Brechtian if you prefer. The common thread that unites them is only that of necessity – mother of our destiny. But if we really wanted to look for a prevalent flavor in SMS, it would be that of rediscovered joy, despite everything (we must imagine Sisyphus happy, Camus warned us…). Stop Making Sense is originally – the title of a Talking Heads album and a 1984 film (a sort of concert movie directed by Jonathan Demme). Early 1980s. A quarter of a century ago. Our troubled adolescence. A whole life ahead of us. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Stop Making Sense (SMS) is part of a multi-year research project called In Movimento that places the encounter with otherness at the center of the scenic work.
