The three studies for a crucifixion take their title from a painting by Francis Bacon: three paintings placed side by side, where three figures are depicted that evoke the dramatic condition of subjects belonging to the contemporary world. Far from wanting to reproduce Bacon’s work in a pictorial way, I set out to invent three theatrical subjects that portray the dramatic condition of three characters of my time. The first study is about a character who lives in a psychiatric context. He wanders among a few empty chairs, inhabited by the ghosts of his memory. The second study is inspired by a character by the German filmmaker Fassbinder. The transsexual Elvira, caught in the balance of her life before the tragic gesture that ends it. The third study, inspired by a character by the French playwright Kolt\u00e8s. It portrays a non-EU citizen dealing with a large European city: streets, parks, bums, police. Inside, the desire to fill the loneliness with a meeting and sharing a rainy night. The characters show in the evidence of their pain, in the impossibility of hiding the signs, in their desperate euphoria, the hidden wounds of existence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
