In addition to his songwriting and compositional activity, he holds the first and only official chair of musical whistling (in English Art-Whistling) at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence. He has recorded his whistling in the soundtracks of some feature films such as La prima cosa bella by Paolo Virzì and Una festa grossa by Vincenzo Salemme, working alongside maestro Nicola Piovani.
In 2005, together with Francesco Bottai, he co-founded the group Gatti Mézzi with which he released six albums and received awards such as a Ciampi Award, a finalist for the Tenco Award, a nomination for the Nastri d’Argento with the song Morirò d’accident stradale, and a Forte dei Marmi satire award.
In 2017 he began a solo career by publishing the album Se mi copri rollo al volo (Vrec, Audioglobe distribution) using only the surname Novi and continuing to write in an ironic way and compose jazz music. He has collaborated with Dario Fo, Paolo Fresu, Stefano Bollani, Gipi, Ascanio Celestini, The Zen Circus, Bandabardò and Bobo Rondelli.
