La Bottega degli Apocrifi

was born in Bologna in 2000 from the meeting of three university students training in theater disciplines and a musician student at the Conservatory.
In 2004 the theater company made a migration against the current and moved from Bologna to Manfredonia, the city of origin of some members of the group, with the political objective of cultivating the desert, which would have less effect “to bring the profession of theater where it wasn’t there”, betting that theater can also be a job in Italy, even in the South.
The good thing is that theatre, by definition, cannot be done alone: whoever is on stage has no reason to exist if there isn’t at least one person in the audience… it is a creative act based on relationships.
This is what we tried to be in Manfredonia: instigators of relationships.
We decided to STAY.
It was then that this word changed its intended use for us and from a verb indicating a sedentary lifestyle it became a noun indicating action, “staying” became a sine qua non, not only of our work in the area, but also of our artistic research.
The Residences of the inhabited theaters have given a name (and resources, a not irrelevant detail) to what in Puglia we and other companies were already doing by natural vocation: attempting to impact the quality of life of a territory with artistic practice.
We aim to create a theatrical community capable of keeping our conscience alive.

And he discovered that that pen was able to dig deep, very deep, where he would never have believed. From that pen the streets of the neighborhood appeared on paper, the blacksmith's shop where a domestic rooster in full light ate iron shavings while a child did his firs...
