Accordionist, pianist and composer. Salis has collaborated and still collaborates with numerous internationally renowned artists such as Francis Kuipers, Massimo Urbani, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Fabrizio Bosso, Rita Marcotulli, Stefano Bollani, Evan Parker, Javier Girotto and Aires Tango, Anouar Brahem, Michel Portal, Don Cherry, Don Pullen, Billy Hart, Ed Blackwell, Billy Cobham, Horacio “El negro” Hernandez, Han Bennink, Naná Vasconcelos, Cecil Taylor, Pat Metheny and many others. He has also collaborated with Pino Daniele, Ornella Vanoni, Teresa De Sio, Vinicio Capossela, Sergio Cammariere, Quintorigo and several other artists outside the strictly jazz sphere.
An eclectic musician, Salis, throughout his career, has taken part in theatre projects (Remondi and Caporossi, Leo De Bernardinis), with Lucia Poli, Remo Remotti, Antonio Rezza and Ascanio Celestini. He has performed in film festivals (Venice Biennale, Taormina Festival, Solinas Award), dance performances (with Roberta Escamilla Garrison, Teri Weikel). With Gérard Pansanel he wrote the music for Eric Romher’s film “Racconto d’autunno”. With Paolo Fresu he wrote the reinterpretation of “Non ti scordar di me” for the music for Ermanno Olmi’s film “Centochiodi”. He has participated in numerous national and international festivals including: Umbria Jazz, Roccella Jonica, Sant’Anna Arresi, Berchidda, Clusone, Ravenna, Paris, Montreux, Nice, Le Mans, Madrid, Moscow, Barcelona, London, Bath, Oslo, Stockholm, New York, North Sea, Chicago, Montreal, Santiago de Chile, Tel Aviv, Rabat, Carthage, Ankara, Vancouver, San Paolo, Rio De Janeiro, Saint Louis, Senegal, Mexico City, followed by a tour that touched the major Mexican cities. During his long career he has obtained various awards at European and international level: “Django d’or” 2005; the Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Jazz Expo 2008; the Top Jazz 2008 award as best instrumentalist of the year (keyboards) and, the following year, “Stunt”, made with Fabrizio Bosso, was elected best album.
