Mubin Dunen was born in Silvan (Turkey) on 4.10.1977. He studied “nay” at the Izmit Municipal Conservatory (Turkey). After his first youthful experiences, from the age of twenty he has carried out his musical activity in a professional form by collaborating with well-known musical groups (Koma Amed, Koma Azad, Karagunes, Alatav in Turkey and Lilith in Berlin) and collaborated in the recordings of concerts and music albums of famous artists, such as Ciwan Haco, Mehmet Atli, Lilith, Metin and Kemal Kahraman, Servet Koca Kaya, Mehmet Akbas, Gulay, Burhan Berken, Tayfun Talipoglu, Serdar Keskin.
He has participated in numerous festivals in Turkey and abroad and deepened his knowledge of new traditional and contemporary instruments. In addition to the nay and his own voice, he regularly uses Santur (cimbalon), Cura (small saz), Tanbur (Turkish cello) and percussion. He has developed a personal style both in performance and composition, influenced by the many encounters with European and Asian artists.
In Europe he collaborated on the creation of an electronic music project with Von Magnet, (France), he wrote and performed the music for a theatrical show created by Gisella Vacca (Italy), he collaborated with the jazz musician Saadet Turkoz (Switzerland) for the creation of the work he presented at the Aksanat Jazz Festival in Istanbul.
To sum up, he has performed concerts in the USA, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Greece, Great Britain, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany, Romania, Austria and Italy, both as a soloist and in a group. In Italy he has participated in dozens of shows, in particular in Venice (on the occasion of the Biennale), Volterra (Teatro di Nascosto review), Rome (Kurdish Film Festival).
In Sardinia, among the numerous other performances there were those in Sassari (Concert on the occasion of the Cavalcata Sarda with Koma Azad), in Genoni (Terre Sorelle festival), Castiadas (Ethnicus Festival) and Cagliari (Sciradindi Festival). He composed the music for numerous documentaries, films (Topac, Kursun adres Sormaz, Dut Zamani, Denge Came) and theatrical shows (Destar Teatro-Cerb, Seyrimesel Teatro-Seva Periyan, Peristan).
In 2009 he recorded the albums BAHAR (spring) and ARAF (purgatory). In 2010 he began collaborating, as a consultant and musical performer, with the Coop Teatrale Sirio Sardegna Teatro. Also in 2010 he composed the musical piece “Cuya Valo Meets Mubin Dunen” with the Sardinian pianist Valerio Baraccani (aka Cuya Valo).
In 2011 he collaborated on the album “No mendigues Amor” by the Sardinian singer Paola Pitzalis, finally accompanying her in the pieces Hey Nare and Horacio’s Lullaby. In 2012 the replicas in Sardinia of the theatrical show, for which he composed and performs the music live, Se dai miei versi strappi le rose by and with Gisella Vacca continued. For 6 years he has collaborated and performed in Sardinia with the group Magic Carpet formed by the violinist Angelica Turno, the guitarist Marco Maxia and the percussionist Giancarlo Murranca, and recently collaborated with the accordionist Luigi Lai and the double bass player of Nasodoble and Orchestra Jazz di Sardegna Alessandro Zolo. In 2016 he published his latest album entitled Gerok (the traveler). In 2017 he collaborated on the musical project of Ambra Pintore Terre del ritorno.
