Born in Sassari, Alberto Capitta is an actor, director and author of theatrical texts and is the founder, together with Elda Broccardo, of Ariele Laboratorio.

He made his debut as a novelist with “Il cielo nevica” (Guaraldi 1999) followed by “Creaturine” (Il Maestrale 2004 and Il Maestrale / Frassinelli 2005; translated in France), the work earned him a place as a finalist for the Strega Prize. In 2006 he was awarded the “Lo Straniero” prize, the magazine founded and directed by Goffredo Fofi, for being, among other things, “one of the most interesting writers of an extraordinary Sardinian flowering” (Nuova letteratura sarda). In 2007 Il Maestrale republished his debut novel “Il cielo nevica” (Guaraldi, 1999). In 2008 he published the novel “Il giardino non esiste”, also for Il Maestrale. He edited the volume “Evasioni d’inchiostro” (Voltalacarta Editrici, 2012), stories, fables and poems from the prison of Badu ‘e Carros in Nuoro. He collaborates with newspapers (La Nuova Sardegna) and magazines (Lo Straniero, Gli Asini) and carries out educational and theatrical activities in schools. His fourth novel “Alberi errant e naufraghi” won the Brancati Prize for fiction in September 2013[2] and the Città di Osilo Literary Prize. It was proclaimed Book of the Year 2013 by the readers of the RadioRai 3 programme Fahrenheit. His novel “L’ultima trasfigurazione di Ferdinand” was published in October 2016, again for Il Maestrale di Nuoro and is a finalist for the Dessì Award 2017. In October 2023 with the publisher Il Maestrale di Nuoro he published his sixth novel “La tesina di S.V.” and at the same time he was awarded the Angioni Career Award 2023 with the motivation “(…) an extraordinary personality and among the most relevant in the narrative and theater of the island and Italy, Capitta was able to combine ethics and aesthetics of his poetics, listed among the highest of the New Sardinian Literature”.
