Danio Manfredini’s training path as an author-actor dates back to the 70s; his path is characterized by the rigor in the theatrical research conducted, outside of any codified path, apparently anarchic, but based on an iron ethical and expressive discipline. An important point of reference for Danio Manfredini’s theatre is painting, understood in the most intimate and profound sense of internal visions that strongly characterize the encounter between the public and the actor, as well as the sensation, which offers the possibility of action, of presence in space. Among his theatrical works we remember The Children’s Crusade from the poem by Bertolt Brecht (1984), Notturno (1985), Miracle of the Rose (1988) with which he won the Ubu Prize ’89, the recital for sax and voice Misty (1989), La fama (1990), Tre studi per una crocifissione (1992). In 1997 he presented the first part of his new work Al presente at the Santarcangelo Festival, which he would bring in its definitive form to the major festivals throughout Italy from 1998 onwards. A year later he won the Ubu ’99 Award. In 2000 he reprised, revised and corrected, the show La fama, which also changed its title to Hic desinit cantus, a work inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini and Jean Genet. On 8 July 2003 he made his debut at the Santarcangelo dei Teatri Festival with Cinema Cielo. Danio Manfredini has participated in the following shows: Il muro, directed by Pippo Delbono (1991); Parsifal, directed by Cesare Ronconi, Teatro Valdoca (1999); Il silenzio, directed by Pippo Delbono (2000). In the 2006/2007 season he presented a re-edition of Three Studies for a Crucifixion, while on July 14, 2007 he debuted Il sacro segno dei mostri, with which Danio Manfredini leads us to the heart of his universe, in the painting studio he ran for years in a psychiatric hospital. His notes taken during the twelve years of work in which Manfredini shared the daily life of these people, became material for a touching and sincere testimony. The result was a show of great poetry, a look at humanity not devoid of tenderness and humor.
