Furio Di Castri

Furio Di Castri is a double bass player and composer Born in Milan on 12.09.1955, he has lived in Buenos Aires, Naples, Venice, Turin, Tunis, Rome, Paris.
Since 1990 he has lived in Turin.
Self-taught, he began studying music as a trumpet player, then with the electric bass and double bass. He recorded his first album in 1973 at 17 years old (Dedalus – Trident rec.).
After a year spent in Tunisia, in 1978 he settled in Rome where he began playing in the groups of Maurizio Giammarco and Massimo Urbani.
Since 1979 he has become one of the most sought-after Italian double bass players as a sideman and plays alongside Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Walter Davis Jr, Jimmy Knepper, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Clark, Enrico Pieranunzi, Al Grey, Franco d’Andrea, Tete Montoliu, Sal Nistico, Enrico Pieranunzi, Dave Samuels.
In the 80s he was a regular partner of Enrico Rava’s quartet and Michel Petrucciani’s trio and participated in concerts and international tours with Dino Saluzzi, Joe Henderson, Chet Baker, John Taylor, Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Joe Lovano, Pharoah Sanders, Charles Lloyd, Ray Anderson, Paul Motian, Tony Oxley, Daniel Humair, Barry Altschul, John Abercrombie, Cristian Escoudè, Philip Catherine, Aldo Romano
